Hi all,

Can one of you tell me how to backup my wallet in a secure manner ?
Is backing up the wallet folder enough or is backing up the seed enough ?
What's the best practice according to you guys.


I want to store everything offline preferrably on an encrypted memory stick.

What are your recommendations.

You only have to keep the master seed somewhere safe. Maybe on a piece of paper.

You can get the master seed from there: http://127.0.0.1:9085/wallet/seed

Just a note - the password is only used to encrypt the local wallet folder so you dont have to keep it. When restoring from seed you can choose whatever password you like.

Having read this makes me think it would be much better to improve qora rather than fork it for a new project, even though some of the features you would like to adopt may not be able to be implemented with the current qora chain (not sure). Part of me thinks this because I would rather see development continue on qora without diluting the talent.  

Also, I don't think a small fee (what is it, 1 qora) for a blog post is more than people are willing to contribute. At the same time, of course qora is open source, and you can do what you want. I think you would also likely have an automatic community built in if you distributed based on the "snapshot" of qora holders.

In regards to the development talent unfortunately one of the main developers (@agran) is already leaving the project and @vbcs has been primarily a CIYAM developer since starting work on AT (well before AT was added to Qora).

IMO if he is working on a clone of the Qora project then actually it should benefit Qora as he will become more familiar with the source code and be able to contribute more to the project.

From what I gather it was actually the vision of @Vrontis to split Qora into several blockchains that each specialised in one area (in this case the social network area) but if the community is going to become divided over this then we won't pursue it.

The intention behind this idea is to eventually have numerous blockchains that all specialise in different things but can be bound together with AT being the "glue" (and ACCT for moving coins between them).

That's great news! Is the original Qora dev still on the team?

Good answer, thanks for the explanation! It would be cool if the Qora dev came back, he's one of the true crypto legends IMO. Hopefully the time away from this project helped recharge his batteries some. The new guy sounds top notch!

In a nutshell, MS Azure BaaS platform is the cloud computing/deployment platform designed specifically for blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS) purpose. By deploying the blockchain on Azure, it would be easier for potential developers and companies to interact and experiment with the blockchain, and create custom apps on top of the platform using existing MS technologies.
 
PROs:

1. By joining the program, we will be able to reach institutions and enterprises (banks, accounting firms.. etc) who otherwise will not be interested in learning and working with Qora.  In other words, we will be able to reach audience outside of current Crypto community.

2. Microsoft will soon offer "Azure Blockchain Marketplace" with rigorous certification process (security vetting conducted by Microsoft). This is the kind of recognition we need.

3. Azure has tools that'll make building/deploying new Blockchain technologies much easier: check out https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/devtest-lab/

4. Developers with no previous exposure to Crytocurrency and Blockchain Technologies will be able to interact/experiment with Qora utilizing existing Microsoft Technologies.

5. Big-name coins like Ethereum are already on it.

CONs:

1. Because of copyright and patent agreements that must be signed as part of the application process, NO Clones of qora or any derivative works based on Qora can be made.  For those of you who wish to be part of CIYAM's new Blockchain, you will be disppointed.  

2. A licensing contract that involves patent and distribution rights has to be signed before being accepted into the program. 

3. The contract cannot be annulled once joined.

Apparently NEM decided to join the Microsoft Azure program, but avoided signing a licensing contract that involves patent and distribution rights by paying to join Azure.

Could the Qora community also consider paying to join the Microsoft Azure program, and avoid losing the rights to the software like NEM?

How much would it cost to pay to to join?

It's another option we might consider and vote on.
