Every time Verge moves forward an inch, it seems there is a targeted attack planned to introduce fear and uncertainty. That is our curse - how can we un-curse Verge? This is not random for sure!

2 hour time window (inherited from BTC) seems waaaaay too lax.   Don't most (if not all) warp attacks stem from this laxity ?  
I think somebody looked into it, and propagation of data network wide takes an average of 6 seconds and maybe 12 seconds max, IIRC.  I understand the need to have some laxity in the ordering of timestamps, but ... 2 hours !?!  
Why not a time window of single-digit multiple of the block time?  That should be enough.... Maybe 3x or 5x the block time ?   With Verge's 30s block time, this window would then be 90s or maybe 150s (2m 30s). Blocks timestamped outside this window should be rejected.

Also, there ought to be a trust score on the peers a node maintains connections with, based on how long they've been connected and how closely a peer's idea of time matches the node's.  A peer should not be able to just appear out of the blue, and present a huge fork and have it accepted. Only if said peer has been around long enough to establish a min trust score should their blocks be accepted and re-broadcast.   Likewise, if a peers idea of time is more than 30 seconds or so off from ours, the trust score should be lowered (or denied entirely) until their clocks match reality.

What do people think ? Would this fix the exploit ?

No. It's a shitcoin. It launched as dogecoindark and emitted like 80% of all coins as a generic scrypt clone with a retarded name in like three months while it had practically no hashrate (i.e., the coin creator, not gonna give him respect of developer title, instamined the fuck out of it). Then it rebranded to the name of a well known magazine and stole that magazine's logo. Then it forked to adopt five concurrent pow algorithms a la myriadcoin and digibyte, however the coin creator didn't implement the time warp fix that those coins have had since like 2014, resulting in allowing someone to "hack" the blockchain twice now. But it does have hot sauce and porn tho...

I agree, that there is a lot of garbage. I do not agree that XVG belong to that.

Definitely, XVG made faults. And this faults would have been avoidable. But this does not mean, that this is a shitcoin. And they must have done some things right, otherwise they would not be where they are right now.

If the crypto community would be so bad, i would not like to be a part of it. I dont think that the attackers should be seen as a part of it. They damage the whole crypto community, not only verge. Because they dont want to be part of a community. They only want to fill their bags...

No software program or project is ever 100% secure. Even the best of the best cryptocurrency projects have bug bounty programs where they encourage the software community to attempt to find security vulnerabilities in their code in a bid to make them more secure. And when one such vulnerability is found, the creators usually offer a patch to the software as the Verge (XVG) team is doing, and also give a reward to whomever found the vulnerability in the code.

XVG recovering the price and soon recover our losses. Developers are actively working.
