I don't buy that at all. When entire countries have one Bitcoin ATM I think that tells you how early in the game this still is. I'm not convinced we're even in the early adopter phase yet if you consider where it might eventually end up.

As for whether our original big swinging dicks are around, there were so many scams, hardware failures and other disasters in the early days that I'm sure more than a few were wiped out. The ones who came along post 2011/12 with deep pockets probably did a far better job of managing what they obtained.

You need to remember that most people see no need for bitcoin,  these people are happy using paypal and banks,  it's going to take some time for people to want a reason to buy into bitcoin.  The only way i can see that happen for people who are not too tech savy is if they realise that it can be a good store of value,  after  buying some they can then also use it to buy a few things after they make a profit.

This will have to change at some point. Almost daily I see 'bank X investment scandal, tricked customers on purpose'-style titles. All that is needed is to present bitcoin as an actually working alternative at the right time(once/if scaling gets fixed).

But how do we know whether all the early adopters were geeks or not? I mean there could have been people who were interested in the general concept of Bitcoin and decided to buy a bunch of coins when they costed mere pennies. I am not convinced that all the early adopters were miners. I know people who are not IT specialists by trade but still they have a thing about investing in things and Bitcoin after all is still a commodity so it's not like only geeks knew about that and found the holy grail. Also that generalization for geeks being overweight and living in their moms' basements is so last year

You seem to be very slow to pick up on whats now been the situation for many years
who you call geeks, most will call programmers or coders
and potential of earnings for compitent programmers is unlimited

but you are now very very late to the party, like others mentioned too many at it these days so you need to have exceptional work and workrate to stand out from the crowd

Just look what 2 "geeks" in a garage done in 1997

in America 25 years ago it was considered blue collar and didnt pay that well.  Today is different.

You need not be a geek to become millionaire with bitcoin IMHO.

I know a guy who have minimum 100 BTC right now in his cold storage. But he bought coins in 2013 and when the price hit $1.2k. I urged him to sell off his coins when the price was ~$800 to buy back at lower prices. But he refused to sell at those prices levels and when the price fell at 2013 and early 2014 he again bought more coins to average his buying prices.

Now I do not know how much coins he has, but I am sure he must have become millionaire for the faith he has on bitcoin.
