In order for this to work everyone has to take a cut

It's up to resellers for how much they will sell cards, my guess that this will vary 5-20%, smallest card will have highest fees due to processing fees etc.
This is far from ideal when it comes to pricing and it can't compare to direct bank transfers.
But again if you need 2BTC in 5-10min instead of waiting days and paying wire transfer fees this is good alternative.
As always getting something fastest will cost you a bit more
