Or [conspiracy theories on] maybe someone was trying to find the owners of different wallets involved in a chain of suspicious transfers/payments to see if they would post a question about it somewhere... did you use Liberty Reserve recently?

No I've never used liberty reserve. I believe the only people I ever gave the address to were bitinstant, and casascius. I don't think it's ever been public.

It looks like it could be a resolved bet from [urlhttp://www.bitbet.us]BitBet[/url]. May just ended so they closed out a bunch of bets. This weekend I had a moment of confusion as I wondered where some of the coin I received came from, but the address seems to match this bet:
