Theres also more secret development in their private repositories. Thats when we know thay the PoCC are playing it very close to their chest and they would only release their idea when the code is ready for testing. They cant have the other projects copy their roadmap.

Thats another encouraging weekly update. Burst, after a long time, has some marketing work behind it by real people of the community. Not like the pump marketing it had with Adam Guerbuez some years ago. This time theres real value in Burst.

It has been weeks and over a year since the Proof of Capacity Consortium has been developing improvements and giving Burst some stability. Technically, it has never been in a better position to become a top 100 coin in market value. Mining capacity is bigger, there are more public nodes, but its community needs to do its part in making it known.

Burst community, do your part. Show the general community that there is a better, greener coin waiting to be adopted.

• A new version of Scavenger – “the fastest Burst miner” – has been released. Version 1.4.0 is a major release with a substantial changelog. In short, it features many performance improvements (especially for big mining rigs) and new features. You can check it out and download it freely on GitHub.
  
  
• The new 2.2.3 BRS core wallet released last week looks stable so far. The PoC Consortium recommends updating if you haven’t already. Click here to download it for your operating system. Numbers of public nodes keep increasing thanks to the fixes brought by this latest version (482 at the time of publication).
  
  
• Call for Code is a multi-year global initiative that is a rallying cry to developers to use their skills and mastery of the latest technologies, and to create new ones, to drive positive and long-lasting change across the world with their code. This year, the inaugural Call for Code Challenge theme is Natural Disaster Preparedness and Relief.
  
  Last week, we reviewed Daniel Jones’ (@nixops) concept of Proof-of-Life, which uses blockchain and radio to send a message to confirm someone is alive in a war time or natural disaster scenario. Daniel’s technology has been submitted to Call for Code – there are many prizes to win so let’s keep our fingers crossed. Here is the project’s repository.

•Scavenger 1.6 is going to be released soon, and it is packed with exciting development. The PoCC’s Burst reference miner is ready to be available for Linux/Unix/Windows/MacOs/Android (32&64bit), allowing support for raspberry pi, odroid and modern android phones. Yes, Burst mining with Android is back! (Long standing community members may remember the first Burst Android wallet – the world’s first application that allowed efficient cryptocurrency mining on smartphones, back in late 2016). ◦PoC Consortium developer JohnnyFFM explains: “I added support for one-dimensional hashing and made Scavenger run on Arm cpus and old 32bit x86 cpus. Tested it on all sorts of Raspberry Pi’s and on a Samsung A5 Android phone. Have a user with a Samung Note 9 as well. Works like a charm!”
◦Why is it a big deal? It shows the versatility of Burst’s Proof-of-Capacity algorithm, allowing mining on even the weakiest and least energy-consuming machines and thus enabling an ecosystem truly designed for decentralization.
◦Full changelog also includes new features, some optimization (2-3% speed increase), and a few bugfixes

•The BRS 2.2.3 core wallet will have a successor sooner than initially planned. BRS 2.2.4 is about to be released soon. Upgrading will be highly advised for average users. Stay tuned!
•Community developer CurbShifter has been developing incredible decentralized applications with Burst for the past few months. Most notably, he is behind CloudBurst, a decentralized cloud storage application, and BurstCoupon, to create and claim password protected coupons with Burst. ◦This week, CurbShifter released BurstLib, a cross platform dynamic library to make developing applications and tools compatible with the Burst blockchain easier.
◦It is providing secure access to the BRS functionality even on external nodes. It is a bridge between the BRS (Burst Reference Software) REST API and a standard C interface. Making it ready to be called from a wide range of programming languages such as C, C++, C#, ruby, python, java, scala, php, lua, ect.

•How would Burst hold against a 51% attack? “In absolute numbers, it is 10 times more expensive to attack Burstcoin, than it is to attack Bitcoin. In relative numbers (profitability), Burstcoin would be a more than 55000 times more bitter pill than Bitcoin.”

•The BRS 2.2.4 version of the core wallet is ready to be published, but the PoC Consortium decided to postpone the release a little to add more things to it. In the meantime, PoCC developer rico666 published a writeup on Reddit: “why you should update to BRS 2.2.3 (or later)“. ◦In short: BRS 2.2.3 changes the way unconfirmed transactions are propagated across the network. This allows ramping up other parameters in the wallet to improve scaling.
◦With BRS 2.2.4, “the Burst network in general will be capable of swallowing a surge equivalent of 80 000 tps for 30 seconds.” So why should you update exactly? “Older BRS versions will work too, but in case such a surge happens, they will cause a high bandwidth not only for themselves, but also for their peers. Which means they become the weakest elements in the network.” Read the article for a fuller explanation.

•Daniel Jones and Tamara Sanchez represented Burst at the 2nd edition of the BlockchainNW conference in Seattle, where they spoke on a panel and met many people. Tamara shared their experience: “we connected with a lot of amazing individuals and we’re just happy to talk about the community and the work and dedication it entails. We were just humbled to represent [the Burst community].” ◦She adds: “We will be at another conference in San Francisco in about a week and a half.”
◦Additionally, Daniel often goes live on Twitch talking about Burst. You can find some replays on his channel. A live is planned for 11pm PST today, don’t hesitate to tune in.
◦Burst community figure Dan Dares launched a fundraising to help cover Daniel and Tamara’s expenses. •The PoC Consortium released new versions of both Engraver and Scavenger, the reference plotting and mining softwares. ◦PoCC developer JohnnyFFM released engraver 2.0.4 today. There was a bug causing all files with a startnonce not equal to 0 to be corrupt in Engraver 2.0.2. He states: “this was a nasty issue but it is now fixed. I am deeply sorry for this and hope I did not cause to much inconvenience for users who have recently tested Engraver.“
◦The good news for windows users: a GUI is now included in the 2.0.4 release. If feedback is positive, JohnnyFFM will push this as candidate to replace Xplotter in Qbundle.
◦Aditionnally, Engraver as well as Scavenger now fully support AVX512f for compatible CPUs. JohnnyFFM explains here the benefits it brings for scanning speed.
◦Finally, Odroid XU4 Mali OpenCL support has been added to Scavenger 1.6.4.

•Everything leads to believe the BRS 2.2.3 and BRS 2.2.4 core wallet versions work like a charm. “I am pretty confident that the network was never as healthy as it is today”, says PoCC developer rico666.

•Last week, the PoC Consortium released the BRS 2.2.5 version of the core wallet, which helped successfuly mitigating a spam attack. PoCC developer rico666 reveals: “the latest spam attack which was mitigated by the 50-50 pool forging fat blocks and the release of BRS 2.2.5 stipulated development of BRS 2.2.6 which is to be released in December and specifically addresses inter-wallet communication.” In the meantime, everyone please update to 2.2.5 to keep the network as strong as possible. ◦Reddit user u/harryy1453 even made it easier for you to upgrade by introducing a “handy little repo that contains packages for the Burstcoin Wallet for Debian and its derivatives.”
◦You can probably expect a more detailed writeup explaining what happened with last week’s spam attack soon.
◦The Poloniex Burst wallet was momentarily disabled but everything is now back to normal.
•PoC Consortium developer JohnnyFFM hinted at a new release of the reference plotting software Engraver. And it’s fast… Very fast! See this Reddit thread for some never-seen-before nonce generation speed. Beta is already available for testers.
