Was this just a way to boost post count or....

1) How do you expect any kid to use their Bitcoin "pocket money"
2) Where would a kid do this?
3) What can kids currently buy with Bitcoin?
4) You forget the mindset of most kids. Any kid aged 13 to 16 receiving Bitcoin "pocket money" is BOUND to do extensive research to where they can spend it, and about 95% of them will come across Silk Road. Not good.

Agree with jaywaka2713. The main issue with BTC is still the limited real word economical background. Hopefully this will change soon, but until then gambling sites, SR and Atlantis are the most handy places to spend BTC.

If you provide them with the means to convert to fiat, this is actually a good idea - it will teach delayed gratification for a potentially greater reward.

However, if your 16-year old son likes the idea of Silk Road it might not work as planned! 

1) I've manged to use bitcoin without any issues
2) Trading could be done on here or on sites that accept bitcoin
3) The most important thing to teenagers: videogames
4) I might be an exception but I now exactly what silk road is and I have never even been on that site.

I think that bitcoin has thought me a lot of things including stuff like forex trading or negotiating with potential clients (check my trust for more info).

It is always up to the kid. That weusecoins video should be shown to everyone introduced to Bitcoin. It's very good and explanatory, but yet, easy to understand.

You could watch the coins go to the SR mixer, I'm pretty sure.

If the aim of pocket money is learning about economic processes bitcoin is quite interesting but its currently limited spending possibilities and technical nature make it viable for older kids only, who can figure these things out.

Maybe paying part of the pocket money in fiat and part of it in bitcoin is an option.

The best option would be talking about economy and various forms of payment and saving with the kid and then letting him or her choose a payment option for pocket money. Again this is only likely to work at a certain age.

giving kids bitcoins is a noval idea. as it avoids that instant urge to spend money in their pocket. and it works well if the parent is also the FIAT exchanger.

the down side
$20 ($100/btc)last week is only worth $16($80/btc) this week.. expect your kids to complain. unlike banks that can put customers on hold for 40 minutes or tell you they wil respond in 48 hours. you cant ignore your kids that easily this week

Um, I wouldn't let me kid under the age of 18 use the Internet. You guys are crazy.

I set up a bitcoin wallet for my gf and thought of giving her a couple of coins. Then I realized there wasn't anything she could do with them. Foodier doesn't even deliver in her area.
