my wallet has been out on sync for the past 24 hours anyone else has that problem

For me it works fine. But in some wallet it sometimes happen. It gets stuck and doesn't want to sync. Sometimes I had to backup wallet.dat, delete AppData\coinname folder and resync.

Storing coins on exchanges is unwise. You can loose access to your account. And most exchanges will get hacked or shut down.

If you don't control your private keys you don't really own anything at all.
