It would be incapable of patent protection in Europe, I assume other places too, as it has been seen publicly therefore does not satisfy the novelty requirement. It's a strict rule; the windsurf lost patent protection because someone had a photo of some kid that stuck a sail on a surf board before the patent was granted.

How can Gavin patent it in good faith when it's Satoishi's invention?

Using patent trolling and that DMCA shit would be an easy shortcut to attack Bitcoin...

Making law enforcement treat users of the client as "pirates", issue takedown notices disrupting major sites etc.


I'm not saying that after all is done Bitcoin would be down for the count, but it would still be somthing i would rather not experience.

Could we please change the thread title to 'Gaven Trademark Bitcoin Now!' instead of 'patent'. There should have been more than enough information provided here in other threads at this point to clear up the patent vs trademark thing.




We do need to have a serious discussion amongst the 'higher ups' about it though. And the sooner the better!

There is the Law Society in which most of us are subject to through deception but are not bound to it if you can play the game back. How about a Bitcoin Society where we can have our own rules and conduct to abide by. I am no lawyer but I watched a lot of the freeman on the land stuff and did quiet a bit of reading on it. Basically it says that we can form a society with our own rules on uses and conduct with bitcoins separate from other societies law.
