    Changed the title.  As I think this is best spot for thread.

    I have given 1 merit point   I will give  25  away on this thread.  I decided to do this as I read a few other threads with merit point giveaways.




    Made it public  as I would like  to allow altcoin mining community to chime in I also do not want to make waves.

    I want to have a merit point give away  thread  designed for altcoin miners.

    I am basing it on this thread  and my  posts with op of this post.

You will ask me to research your post history and direct me to 10-20 posts that you believe show you have a deep desire to learn about, use, and support bitcoin. I will then ask you a couple of questions about how bitcoin works and you will answer them. I don’t care if you take some time to research the answer if you come up with the correct answer. That just means I’ve made you learn more about bitcoin than you knew previously.

    Bitcoin does not mean altcoin. I know altcoins are more popular on this forum than bitcoin. I don’t care. I will only help bitcoiners level up. If most of your post history is in altcoin threads I won’t help you. I do not consider Bitcoin Cash to be bitcoin. If you don’t know what the real bitcoin is then you haven’t been here long enough for me to help you. Which leads me to the group I’m willing to help.

    New members, Newbies, Jr Members and Members don’t need any merit. They don’t have enough post history to judge so I won’t be helping them.

    Full members, Sr. Members and Hero Members really got screwed with the merit system. Some of them were really close to leveling up and now have to wait until they’ve impressed the right person to probably get only one merit point from them. The most extreme case of this is Hero Member. They may need hundreds of merit points to level up which could take a very long time to get.

    You will be working for 20 merit points. Good luck to all. I will announce when they’re gone and lock the thread.

    I think you are correct .

    I do not think the op is correct to exclude altcoin and reward bitcoin .  But I also think he is entitled to give his points anyway he wants since the points are his to give. Meanwhile enjoy the merit.

    I’ve said before in this thread that I don’t know enough about altcoins to be able to judge the quality of their participation but you do. I would love to see one of these type threads start in the altcoin section and one in each local sub for non English speaking people.

    Why don’t you start a thread in altcoin discussion since you’ve been a core altcoin person for a long time? It would be a great service to your community and it would help people become involved in altcoins. Or, if not you, maybe you know someone that could do it.

    It would seem to be a personal decision between either the board we are in or this board https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0. Either one would be appropriate in my opinion, as long as you are indeed going to be talking about Alt-coins, and especially mining if it were to stay in this section.

    I doubt this would make waves, theymos was very interested in having merits being plentiful in every sub-community and sub-section; the altcoin users are no exception to this. You have my vote and you probably could start it right here in this thread as you've suggested.

    I would not make it a simple giveaway, maybe have users submit posts or you can review their overall post history; answer some questions about altcoins or anything that is challenging or would discern meritorious from desperation.

    In my case  I can fully control my power cost.  up to 13-15kwatts 24/7/365   Due to the solar array deal I have with forum member buysolar .

     So I am in gpu camp more then asic camp Simply due to long  warranties with good service.

    which in turn  means more altcoin then  BTC.

    I have a ratio of

    coins to asic gear to gpus to cash to debt to power cap to heat cap to sales of gear

      that I juggle to earn profit.

    If threads like this are required, doesn’t that mean that the merit system is kinda broken?

    I don’t mean that the merit system is bad, it’s good in the sense that it encourages useleful posts. But the merit sources seems to be a little too strict as to the criteria in which merits are given.

    Your thoughts?

    No. It does not mean that it is "kinda broken"; it means that it has just been implemented and everyone is figuring out the best way(s) to distribute merit to every section and sub-section of this forum without being too liberal or strict about it. There are 57 merit sources and millions of members; they will not get to you all. There are more sources being added constantly, and specifically in an attempt to target the sub-communities that don't get enough attention or merit.

    How does a user giving out merit points in a thread to users that deserve it prove the merit system is broken?

    Merit is meant to be hard to achieve, otherwise it would be meaningless.

    The old system had flaws .

    Post a few times a week and make rank.

    Have multiple accounts create a few threads and in a year. Of posting to yourself and your alts you can have three or four good looking accounts.

    In two years you would have hero accounts.

    In three or four years you have legendary accounts .

    You then can do some nice rip offs.  Yeah it would be long but if done correctly a lot could be stolen.

    I escrow . I have a legendary account I have escrowed 50k in usd.


    I think there is a fear of someone doing a long con with the old system.

    All the senior guys now have a long delay to be a hero so maybe they will be stopped from scamming.

    If 1 in 20 seniors are looking to reach hero to scam they will be slowed a lot.

    While I agree with you, I also think default merit should be given in a better way...proportionally to days/posts maybe....
    this way someone who just got Full member status and me, few days before reaching Senior member, got same starting merit points,
    so I'm actually slowed down lot more

    Just like trust. It takes a LONG time to build trust on BCT.

    What you say doesn't make much sense, because you just told me that if my account was 10 days older, I would deserve to be Senior member, but because I didn't sign up 10 days earlier,
    I deserve it to be postponed few years? Cheesy

    I never said that and I would highly recommend you stop lying. Please, where did I ever say that you deserved to be ranked up if you signed up 10-days earlier? You either have me confused with somebody else, you have no clue what I'm saying or you are blatantly lying.

    If you cannot earn merit as intended, then you should be postponed indefinitely; you should never rank up if you are unable to earn merit.

    You should be more into the health of the forum than you are about your own rank, but it appears you care more about your rank for signature campaigns then you care about the forum. This says a lot about you, so please stop purposefully twisting my words so that you can say something you believe to be witty and cute.


    These represent 99% of your posts, they are not even a full sentence, they add nothing to the conversation, you regularly post in useless mega-threads. I see why you are upset, because you post nonsense all day.

    Everyone is not equal.

    Users in this community earn merit/respect/trust based on value they add to the community over time.

    I'll be honest, I have no clue what "rank" I am. The users who know me know the value I add to the community.

    The purpose is not to make it "fair" or treat everyone equally; equity is not the goal. The goal is to discourage people like yourself from posting nonsense (because the primary benefit has been nullified), as I have referenced. The purpose was exactly the opposite of treating everyone equal; it was meant to separate people like you from people that contribute to the community and reward the people that actually contribute. That was not cherry-picking, that is representative of your posting as a whole.

    Pointing out your flaws, bad-habits and harmful activity in hopes that you improve yourself, see the error of your ways or just get discouraged enough to leave the forum entirely would certainly be good for the forum.

    I am not going to continue muddying philip's thread, by going back and forth with someone that doesn't deserve it. If you'd like to continue this conversation, send me a PM; not contributing anymore to your worthless attempt to farm merit/activity.
