Why is it necessary to announce IP address of forging nodes? Every node is forging, or not?

It's part of the "transparent forging" thing. Everyone on the network knows who will forge the next block. This enables them to send their transactions directly to the forger so they get included in a block right away.

Agreed. And I have no problem with Framewood receiving funds as compensation and/or bounty (just don't call it "EpicThomas paying up").

My gut feeling is that he was the unfortunate victim of another hacker using a rogue client that worked in a different way. Not sure that will ever be tracked down though.
