Does anyone else think this might have been a friendly DDoS?
It caused Cfb to tighten up the software and it caused us to strengthen the network with an explosion of new nodes and many more in the works. If someone really wanted to embarrass Nxt, they could have waited until we were out of alpha stage and they could have hit us with a much stronger attack. If it's malicious, why bring it on early and easy? It has done us no harm and quite a bit of good.
I'm not one for conspiracy theories. But I thought the same thing the other day. See who's really in this and for what goal
You can only saturate the network up to 100%, anything past that, their DDOS power is being wasted. Also, I think they got spooked by how fast NXT was rising, and wanted to suppress it before people started looking into it. Don't forget, once the source code is released, they may find a way to launch an even more powerful attack, so this was at most a recon mission for the attackers.
In any case (malicious or not), the DDOS showed us how strong the NXT community is. A few months from now, no one will remember the rollercoaster price right now (something I'm sure all new coins experience), they'll remember that there's a community willing to give up their personal time and money to see NXT succeed!
