The year is 2048. Evolving technologies can no longer be regulated. Dangerous advancements forever alter the criminal landscape. Police are not prepared. Law enforcement combats this corruption with a new line of defense. But not all are created equal.
Pretty much if there's tech in the show, the cops are barely managing to fight the tech-using criminals/put it to good use themselves, and only one of the cops' droids is able to not get "killed" every episode.
If you took everything literally, you'd think JJ Abrams and co want everyone to be impressed/scared shitless about technology (keeping in mind other shows like Revolution, Fringe, and Alias).
