I don't now, competition is strong, The Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle are also great movies.

I think that the momentum is a lot more on American Hustle's side than 12 Years a Slave.

The latter is definitely a good film, but I guess we'll see!

Hence why I said, "an Oscar nod". Doesn't matter if they won or not, the fact that these are the only films representing the black experience in the US that are being selected for accolades by the Hollywood elite exposes their racist way of thinking. Which is the ultimately irony, given that they see themselves as progressive types, or "good white people".

Actually, the last Oscar *winning* film that I loathed which dealt with racism was Crash.

The main lesson in that one was that racism is bad, mmmkay? Zero subtlety.

The Academy seems to eat that shit up, though.

I've seen all of the movies and think this has the best chance to win. The plot is so heavy, and the acting is way too good to pass up over American hustle, which might be the only movie that could beat out 12 years a slave.

I think it was a shame that Chiwetel was not giving the award but Matthew did play a good role and did work hard to look the way he did.

I'm betting money on the Oscars and betting on 12 years a slave again!

I have "delicate sensibilities" because I'd like to see the Academy Awards select some films featuring black themes that aren't about them being victims or dimwits that need the help of charitable white people to succeed? I'm glad you can enjoy all these movies, but I don't think that Hollywood promoting the idea that blacks are second class citizens is healthy for anyone.

You know, slavery sucks and it's still even practiced in parts of Africa to this day (not by white people, incredibly enough!) but nobody I know has owned slaves, nor have their parents, or grandparents, great grandparents, or great great grandparents. If we all want to live in an egalitarian society, we need to stop focusing on racial strife and promote films that aren't about fucking slavery, black people being whipped, and fucking butlers and mammies!
