    Clearly. Sounds like a bunch of petulant children caring about their 'investment' beyond all else. In the grand scheme of things, Evan and team are trying to build an actual virtual currency to be utilized by all, not just focused on an "anonymity" niche. If that were the case then why even bother with InstantTX? Over the years and in public perception, branding matters.

     Evan has been quite open since the beginning that DRK was NEVER created to serve the dark markets and illegal activity. He created Xcoin with X11, and very intelligently changed to a snappier Darkcoin - which made perfect sense at the time

    It was the logical progression and a smart name change!!

    A year in cryptos is more than dog years. Mt.Gox seems decades ago, but in reality it was just about 1 year ago.

    Darkcoin has evolved into something MUCH bigger than its original premise! And the name is holding us down.

    Things have changed considerably, and with so much bullshit scamming/silk roads/Ulbrichs/Karpeles/Green a.k.a. Kennedy/Shreems etc etc etc... "dark" is not going to help one bit.

    That does NOT MEAN that a name change will change the fundamental "mission statement" made when he created XCoin originally.

    I agree -

    The "Well branded" aspect only exists with a very, very small group of users in the grand scheme of things, and most of them keep track of ongoing developments. There will also undoubtedly be a storm of users making absolute sure that any 'knockoff' is immediately discredited before it could take hold. Just saying you're "Darkcoin" doesn't make you Darkcoin, or Xcoin, or Dash, or w/e. The development team and core philosophy has to be there.

    That was suppose to be the case with SPR but alas, it didn't happen. One of the greatest aspects about Darkcoin as it currently stands over the year is the distribution of the coins, certainly after the mishap over the instamine. It almost became a necessary evil to be able to structure the MN's with a 1k requirement and have a suitable number without taking too many coins "out of circulation". Anyone is free to clone Darkcoin or make improvements... it is, afterall, open source. But then you need to also figure out how to distribute the coin in such a way that allows a network suitable in size to Dark's to allow functionality of both DS and IX.

    And for anyone still gun-hoe on sticking with the name, go and recruit 10 new merchants to accept it. If every individual coin holder was capable of doing that, the name would prove to be a non-issue, but unfortunately, it's not easy. It's easy to sit back and nitpick over the name when all Darkcoin really is right now is a small "boys only club". It's more of a speculative, trading instrument than one that could offer real world utility by struggling with an uphill battle for merchant adoption--that's evident by it's oh-so-large marketcap. A coin without merchants (people willing to accept it in exchange for goods and/or services) isn't a currency. If you don't have a growing userbase, you won't be able to make any of the changes everyone so badly wants to see made. It's a one-way street in terms of user acceptance... Dark markets will accept it regardless of name if it proves to be viable to do so. Keeping the name as is, discourages further user acceptance from the mass population. I don't care if the name is Dash or something else... anything that removes the negative connotations associated with the word Dark is a win for future user adoption. Am I saying Darkcoin will replace fiat currencies, no, but it doesn't stand a chance at hitting a billion dollar market cap without an ever increasing merchant network and adoption rate. And before those of you that come in here saying you brought friends and family on, that's way easier than merchants... further, chances are you sold it as an investment vs something that could empower change.
