Is it possible to not have an obviously centralized reference node?
I mean, I get that the node can be taken over, but how can it not be controlled by one person, forever?
Like, I guess you can have such low bars as 'anyone can be the reference node, so it's decentralized', but I'm trying to understand how it can be possible to not need a reference node at all for the <300 masternode operators
Without a centralized reference node to enforce a round-robin schedule, masternode owners must accept statistical variance in their payouts.
This will cause no end of complaints from the less lucky ones.
If you own dozens or hundreds of MNs, it won't be noticeable, but those with one or two will notice significant periods of no or low payouts.
I thought everyone understood variance is part of crypto, whether mining using PoW or PoS, so I'm not sure why the ref node was ever thought to be a good idea. Once people get used to it, good luck taking it out.
I think DASH types are less sophisticated than almost any other community, so the ref node is there as training wheels for the HYIP kiddies.
Of course this will end in tears, whether because of spork enforcement exploits, reference node spoofing, or THE DARKCOIN FOUNDATION INC's failure to comply with FATCA and a million other laws/rules/regulations.
DASH isn't any more secure than the copy protection on an MMORPG. If any serious crackers so much as glance at DASH, it will melt into a puddle of fail.
