Im trying to buy. I just sent btc to poloniex but the network is fucking slow as shit with the mempool filled full of transactions.
Hopefully I'll be able to get some cheap but this did teach me a lesson. Always keep a btc or two on the exchanges to be able to take advantage of this.

Is there any official comment on this from the official ethereum website? I couldn't believe how fast it had crashed when I checked. This is the first thread I found giving a reason for the crash.

I think it was not hacking but a splitting DAO vote or something. Its not a big deal I guess. Of course DAO the biggest holders of ETH, gave this crash like selling and it may continue for a while, in worst case scenario it would be around 20%. But I don't think this to happen. All I'm saying is a temporary crash creates once in a life time opportunity to go long on ETH i guess. The problem is we don't know where will be the bottom. This is why it is so important to go with options as a protective measures. Whatever you go long ETH, simply buy enough puts to cover your losses if any crash occur again. This is what the all hedge funds are doing this over and over again to make stable profits!

in order to remove funds from the dao you need to split and create a child dao which has a time lock. the hacker did what has happened with some exchanges in the past i.e. a few years ago you could submit a withdrawal repeatedly within a fraction of a second and before the exchange system could catch up you could withdrawal more than you had (google it, it is 2 3 years ago), hacker of dao did similiar, split, child dao and repeatedly withdraw dao into it accumulating 3 mil. + dao in that child dao. that child dao is now locked down with the 3 mil. + dao in it and he cannot remove it to sell, the dump seen is the public panicking upon hearing this reverse FOMO, maybe FOBH - fear of bag holding?

They are working on a soft fork atm. the leaked ether is in a child DAO so the attacker has to wait another 27 days before he can withdraw. At a later time a hard fork will be proposed.
