As per my opinion and belief the value of crypto is determined on following factors:

Crypto coins are being issued through ICOs .  People are investing in these issue after checking the future plans projects and team members.  If the plans and projects seem to be earning profits by its activities then many people will be attracting to buy it's coins.

Many coins do not find any seekers and so the ICOs may fail.  But on the other hand because of the quality of project the applicants buy the tokens in queues. 

Then these coins are available in the market for sale and  purchase.  Demand for good quality coins remains high and so the price is high but the demand for low quality projects is very low so not so many people want to buy these coins.  So the demand for such coins is very low and ultimately the price will be very low 

Speculators also play major role by spreading different news at different times which affects price movements. 

the value of the cryptocurrencies is depend on the popularity, and we can see that the popularity in the public is depend by the impact in the public, so if the project makes the good impact for many people i think the coin will have a great value, but if its not i think the cryptocurrencies doesn't have a good value

Cryptocurrency price is always determines by the demand of the project  ,if there is much demand the price will rise but if there is no demand the price continue to stay same or decline...

90% of the replies here are just repeating the same thing: "Supply and Demand". although that is correct but it is not all there is when it comes to determining price  of "altcoins and tokens".

since these coins have no real usage and no real value their prices are determined based on hype and the pump and dumps they have. in short it is based on manipulation. there is no real demand for them so all there is, is speculative demand  that has come based on that hype and pump that was going on. and will go out just as easily and fast.
