    I was wondering if there was a Linux live cd with Bitcoin already installed on it because I have had difficulty installing the Bitcoin client on Linux recently I don't know why or if its to do with compatability with the linux version.

    I'm looking for a live cd with Bitcoin already installed to make it easier does this exist and does it work on the stable version of Linux?

    Wouldn't trust it, if it did exist.

    Which flavour of linux you using? I've not had problems on Mint, so expect all flavours Debian are stable.

    Can you not just download bitcoin-0.8.6-linux.tar.gz from https://bitcoin.org/bin/0.8.6/ extract from tar.gz and run the/bitcoin-0.8.6-linux/bin/32/bitcoin-qt ?

    Potentially it's drawing on certain installs that you might be missing. Install all these for everything that should be needed to compile from source on github:

    sudo apt-get -y install checkinstall subversion git git-core build-essential libssl-dev libdb++-dev libminiupnpc-dev libboost-dev libboost-system-dev libboost-filesystem-dev libboost-program-options-dev libboost-thread-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libfreetype6-dev libfontconfig-dev libxrender-dev libsm-dev libglib2.0-dev libxext-dev libxext6-dbg x11proto-xext-dev

    You can install Bitcoin from the repository (I think it is called). I originally did it from here without problems though (not using a tarball) - http://www.distrogeeks.com/install-bitcoin-qt-ubuntu/
    I had no problems on Ubunto 13.10 but imagine it would be the same on 12.04.

    thanks I will check it out now and see if I can get it to install I was hoping to find a linux live cd which had no other packages on too because that would be great for a offline wallet.

    Download the tgz from here https://bitcoin.org/en/download and extract it with
    $ tar xf bitcoin-0.8.6-linux.tar.gz

    In the extracted directories there is one called 64 (for 64 bit systems) and one called 32 (for 32 bit systems) where you find the programs

    This should work fine

    I'm also going to be making a offline wallet so how would I go about doing this? copying the program on a usb and plugging it into the offline computer and install that may?

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bitcoin/bitcoin
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install bitcoin-qt
    If you aren't the sole controller of your private keys, you don't have any bitcoins.

    Making a offline wallet is a bit more work. I don't think bitcoin-qt is too good at that, but you can use armory

    I use Ubuntu 13.10 and all i had to do to get bitcoin-qt is type

    apt-get install bitcoin-qt

    Job done

    You can't use bitcoin-qt for an offline wallet. I suggest electrum. Here are the steps for debian but I imagine they will be the same for ubuntu:

    sudo apt-get install python-pip python-qt4
    wget https://download.electrum.org/Electrum-1.9.7.tar.gz                               #software
    wget https://download.electrum.org/Electrum-1.9.7.tar.gz.asc                         #signature
    wget https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/raw/master/pubkeys/ThomasV.asc #developers' gpg public keys

    Then run gpg once to make it generate the default key pairs and get that over with. Press control c to exit gpg and do this:

    gpg --import ThomasV.asc
    gpg --verify Electrum-1.9.7.tar.gz.asc Electrum-1.9.7.tar.gz

    It should now tell you "good signature" for ThomasV. There will be a warning which you can safely ignore.

    Then run it (just type electrum) and it will create a new wallet for you. Note down the seed and there's your wallet! To create a watch only wallet copy the master public key over to a USB drive for use on your regular OS install:
