    I would like to introduce a website plugin that generates a feed with the latest activity in the bitcoin community. The purpose of the plugin is to show people new to bitcoins that the currency is supported by a vibrant community.

    Right now the feed only pulls data from irc chats, but by the end of the week the plugin will be pulling from twitter, craiglists, and possibly even this forum!

    Anyway, I want some critical feedback. The plugin is in open-beta right now, so anyone is welcome to try it. Visit http://api.bitcoinbulletin.com/ to check it out or copy & paste <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://api.bitcoinbulletin.com/btcpulse”></script> into an HTML file.

    P.S. It would be great if an ADMIN added the JS line into the source of this post.

    Thanks for the feedback. I would like to know more about the problem you discovered. Can you tell me if you are using Chrome or Chromium? Also, what version of Chrome are you using.

    Update: I found the cause of the problem, but it may take me a day or so to fix. For some reason, jQuery makes two calls instead of one each time it wants to receive the most recent messages.   Embarrassed

    Okay, so I think the problems with the plugin have been fixed. I will be slowly rolling out new features in the plugin over the next several days. Let me know if anyone discovers any more bugs!

    Wow, that's awesome. You know, it would be really cool to get a "real value" for bitcoins by monitoring prices of items that get sold on Bidding Pond and comparing them to their prices on Amazon or some similar website. I think that would yield a much more accurate picture of bitcoin health than the Mt. God price. I was going to try to do that myself, but I think I may have taken on too many projects already. Maybe you could do it?

    Thanks! The plugin still needs a little more work, but I am really happy with it. To re-iterate, I am hoping this plugin will help promote the growth of the bitcoin community by showing people new to the currency that the bitcoin community is alive and thriving!

    I am all for making new bitcoin plugins... they are fun to make...

    But before I start any project, I always make sure the project is clearly defined. Comparing the prices of products in sites like biddingpond.com to the prices of products in Amazon sounds a little tricky. First, I'd have to make sure the products being compared are identical in every-way, and there would have to be lots and lots or products to compare in order to generate reliable statistics. Second, I'd have to find a way to pull the data from various websites. I don't think biddingpond and amazon have an API for me to take advantage of. This means I would have to parse data from the HTML sites. While this is doable, every-time the website is redesigned my parsing methods would be rendered worthless. So, creating such a plugin sounds like too much work, unless an easier source of information were found.

    Speaking of Bidding Pond, (1.) the new site is much improved!  (2.) Does anyone know who runs the Bidding Pond? Username or anything, their about us page looks like this: http://www.biddingpond.com/contents.php?show=aboutus, it deserves better.   Sad

    Wow! I had no idea that Amazon gave access to their database of items. Then maybe such a plugin IS possible.

    Have you seen htp://bitcoin-otc.com/ticker.php. I could grab the market prices directly from trades, and use that to determine the price of the bitcoin currency.

     By the way, I fixed the bug in the bitcoin feed plugin. Some messages in the chat rooms were not making their way into the plugin. But that problem is now fixed. Let me know if you find any new bugs!

    You can submit search queries to Search Bitcoin through our API. Eventually, I will overhaul the BTC Economy plugin, but my time is limited.
