Anything concept, idea,ideology or technology that is not criticized means it is not important or relevant to people. I am impress by the criticism of bitcoin by media because it is gradually taking bitcoin to the mainstream.

I really don't think so. Take a look at the news and social media alone, what do they usually cover? 90% of the time, it's one of these:

• Experts say bitcoin will go to zero.
• Bitcoin is dead.
• Bitcoin is a scam, says expert.
• Something something bitcoin and criminals.

It's really going to be difficult to get the typical person to get bullish into something that's full of bad news. It will take time. I personally think the people will slowly realize bitcoin's worth when financial crisis hits. Either that, or probably huge merchant adoption. I'm personally betting more on the former though.

there has always been a lot of good news all over the media. in fact 2018 is filled with them but the problem is that price was on a downtrend for most of 2018 and in this last month we also had a new manipulative dump that crashed it even further... all of that meant that the good news is overlooked all year long but it is still there.

I don't agree. Until 2017 Bitcoin was presented like an exotic money-like thing for the geek's and mostly the hacks got coverage.
After that the optics have change, they talked about people's money in this and now the seem to acknowledge it as an investment vehicle.
So.. there are new things in this.

But I agree, the price couldn't care less about the news coverage. So whether we'll finish the year in a good or bad note, it will not be because of the news. The news will only tell what happened (or maybe speculate sometimes, but that's worthless talk, you know that).

It is ending on a good note if you don't look at the price. It is being more widely accepted and more widely known. This means the next bull run will involve more people and be bigger than the last

Its possible that this is the case because some of the well known mainstream
financial institutions are warming to bitcoin through futures trading and ETF'S
for example.

Hard to see if we are going to end 2018 on a positive note. As far as I know, we might see this bearish trend to continue although mainstream media is putting bitcoin on their news, it doesn't mean that we will see the negative sentiments suddenly turns into a bullish one.

Although hearing Ohio accepting bitcoin as form of payment and might even set a precedence it's not enough to push this market. We need news like the BAKKT bitcoin future offerings to pump fresh blood into the ecosystem, but since they postponed in for next year, perhaps we might see the market flat up to the end of 2018.

Mainstream media is obsessed with the price and they think there is a direct correlation between Bitcoin's success and the price of a bitcoin.  You cannot measure Bitcoin's success, based on the favorable views of one state <Ohio> in a global context. Bitcoin is spreading like cancer and modern medicine < government regulations & fud > can only slow it down, but it will continue spreading until it killed the fiat financial system and all these corrupt centralized services.

A lot of time and energy and money is thrown at Bitcoin to destroy it, but it just grows stronger and more resilient with each attack. Why?... because people with stronger motivation is supporting this experiment. <People who wants financial freedom>   

Any good information about Bitcoin is good information and brings cryptocurrency closer to the mainstream. Unfortunately, this is not enough to make people start trusting Bitcoin. After such large price drops, now people will very slowly regain confidence in cryptocurrencies. I think it will take up to about a year before prices return to a good level.
