Alaska keep him as he is only their chance to at least compete with other teams which has improve their roster.
I think that's not the reason why Alaska keeps Manuel. They have a stand back then that they can push without Manuel as the damage is already done. After all, Manuel takes the issue into the media before doing it first in a professional way which is way better so Alaska will be the one to blame for a failed negotiation. Alaska also seems interested in trading Manuel
(because Manuel wants to) but only if they can get a better deal to other teams.
And the fact that Alaska keeps Manuel, means no good offer for other teams. Alaska's management might be seen as the bad one here in the story by others but they are grateful that even Manuel keeps asking for a trade and even mentioned his preferred teams, Alaska gives him an option to stay if no teams can give a good offer.
Well then, the story is now close. Hoping that after re-signing Manuel, Alaska's plan for rebuilding wouldn't end there. Even with a healthy Manuel, I still don't see them as one of the good contenders next conference.
