That is indeed an assumption for many people even I also think like that for now, but when we see the many altcoins that have their own advantages with the support of relevant parties, then at least such an assumption will get a pattern that is broken later which is possible even though bitcoin collapsed, maybe altcoin could survive because of the high enthusiasm about crypto also growing and increasing.

Bitcoin deserves to be on the top. It is the first cryptocurrency to be acknowledge by many people and to be successful in changing the way on how we transact. It had brought a lot of opportunities and fortune to a lot of people amd it will continue to grow as time passess by.

It's not surprising, bitcoin has been labeled as king of crypto for nothing. There's lot of analysis that shows how dominant bitcoin is. Even though the market volatility is expecting to have high trends, bitcoin stayed unaffacted by the sell off of assets, it even crushed the record of assets including yen, WTI crude oil, and gold. Considering bitcoins 2017 bull run that hit up to $20,000, many investors chose and have been convinced to have bitcoin as their assets. But there's no guarantee that bitcoin will stay on top and won't be overthrown by other cryptocurrencies.

Some of the altcoins do have better technology when compared to Bitcoin, but the problem is that the users are not looking for a technologically superior coin. If that was the case, then the third generation cryptocurrencies such as Cardano or NEO would have toppled Bitcoin from the top position by now. On the contrary, Cardano is one of the worst performing cryptocurrencies currently, with a net loss of 98% from the all time high levels reached during the end of 2017.

Ethereum is currently the second most popular cryptocurrency, and the reasons for that is clear. Ethereum is relatively easy to use (when compared to alts such as Monero and Cardano), and there is a large community which offers help to anyone who needs it. If some new cryptocurrency wants to overtake either BTC or ETH, then it needs to gain the confidence of the ordinary user. And so far none of them has managed to do that.
