Maybe some members got way more merits than were deserved, but I did see some good submissions in that thread that must have taken a bit of work.  Anyway, that thread is kind of a one shot deal so I wouldn't worry about it if there were people creating crap just to get merits.  I'm absolutely sure that happened, because word spreads when a lot of merits are being given out in a certain spot.  It's like heroin users flocking to areas where there's a lot of overdoses because they know the dope is strong.  Sad but true.

LOL.  You're just about as cynical as I am.  Members were starting to create their own threads about the anniversary if I'm not mistaken, and they all struck me as merit-grabbing attempts.  You kind of have to have been on the forum a while to really be cheerful that it's been around for ten years.  I highly doubt Jr. Members care all that much.

I have same feelings and from my raw data in Top-100 merited-artists in the 10th anniversary art contest, I believe there are hundreds of users ranked up within the art contest period, and there are users collected enough merits for their next ranks and only waited for enough activities. Some of them stucked for months/ years since the birthday of merit system, but fastly ranked up with the art contest.

I want to do a topic on "How many Artists collected enough merits to rank up from the Art contest" but I am lack of skills to scrap data. I think data-scraping experts like @LoyceV and @DdmrDdmr can do this.

LoyceV presented data in The future of Bitcointalk: Low Ranking Top Merit earners in the past 30 days. Quickly glance at stats, I saw lots of artists in the list.

This is not about report phising site.

They give you merit because you tell others about scam phising site and they think your topic is helpful to avoid scam.  

Anything with those statistics are highly likely to net merits. Or those [HOW TO/ BEGINNERS GUIDE] threads

It's not to complicate to earn merit, you don't need 4 but only one step - quality.
If you write good quality posts,  something what contribute to the forum or can help others,  you will receive merits.
Some people maybe can't write good posts in English but we already have many local merit source so even in local sections it's not to difficult to earn merits.
Also,  we already have a lot merit giveaway topics in the forum so if you feel that some good posts are not rewarded with merits you can report it in such topics.

• 2. Keep it updated in the best way you can therefore bumping and always making the thread visible
• 3. Concentrate on engaging in conversation in the meta board to portray yourself as a quality contributor.
• 4. Keep calm & wait, then profit

Before now, create threads on complimenting the system or complain and your post history will be reviewed probably earning you some merit (if only you got some decent post). Enjoy 😁.
