I heard about BTC sometime in 2012/13 but I wasn't immediately interested, I started getting more serious about the whole thing only in 2014. At that time someone posted video in which Tim Draper (American venture capital investor) saying that BTC will reach $10 000 in next 3 years. When I did a little better research into what this was about, and that it was a very intelligent man, it was clear to me that BTC was not just a passing thing.
During 2015, BTC was quite cheap (around $200 - $250) and I was buying few, then wait to price go up and sell for small profit. Now I wish I hold them, because we all know what happened in 2017. However, over the years, profit has become less important to me, and I became more interested in the fact that BTC is actually a very useful currency and store of value.
Like most people who get interested in crypto, my first steps started with faucets. With low BTC price at that time, and huge price increase over the years my claims have become very valuable. In one month with some refs it was easy to get 0.15 BTC or even more from faucets
