Hi, so I have received some tips on reddit in the past. I tried to withdraw them, failed and let it go. Now I received another tip and I tried again. I made a phoenix wallet, copied my address and typed

The system tells me "you didn't have enough funds. Your balance is 0.0 Satoshis". But how is that possible? I have 100 Satoshi as a tip.

Not that I care about the 100 Satoshi, but I'd like to start using the lighting network so that I can send some Satoshi to my friends and hopefully get someone into Bitcoin.

One time I received a bitcoin cash tip and in that case I had no problems to withdraw it. So I'd like to understand what the difference is and why I'm getting this error.

Hmm, you said that your tip is only 100 sats so most probably the case is your funds are less than the amount of minimum withdrawal or the transaction fee is higher than your current balance. That's why you can't withdraw it unlike to your previous experience.

Though I use reddit often, I'm still not sure about my conclusion since I am not so familiar how award system works there. I'm just a simple lurker Cheesy

Mmmh, I don't think that's so though, because it says that my balance is 0.0 Satoshi whereas my tip is 100 Satoshi, so my balance should be at least 100 Satoshi.

I'm a newbie on reddit as well so I'm ignorant too.
When I received my bch tip it was way higher, it was 5 usd worth of Bitcoin cash, so there's some truth to your assumption but I still think there's something else I'm doing wrong, both because the balance should be 100 Satoshi and also because the whole point of the lighting network is to transfer small amount of money with almost no fees.

You can't withdraw such amount, due the fact that it needs tx fee, though you can use 1 satoshi as a fee but mostly wallets require you to send at least 0.0001 btc or 10.000 satoshis.
If the system tells you that you have 0 satoshis, then you have 0 balance. Tried to message their support if the tip really reflects on your account.

Haven't tried having tip on reddit, but I guess it is just similar to the tips or rains on Telegram. :/
You can't withdraw such amount, you must know first their minimum withdrawal.
A tip like 100satoshis is not that high...do not waste your time for that.... but it's okay if you want to.

it seems that the problem has already been solved according to OP's Reddit post(link below). @OP I don't really know how depositing works on Reddit but is it possible that the 111sat fee is fixed and that is why you can't deposit your balance?

There is something that I am doing wrong. As you can see now that guy has sent me 200 sats. But I can't send it back to him due to the fees.
The app says that the minimum fee is 111 sats, but that cannot be right, if you look at my previous messages I have linked a video of a guy who sends only 50 sats.
I have also seen people send a transaction paying only 1 sat.

These tips do NOT move on the chain but on the lightning channel, that's why the fees are way way lower than normal.

There must be something that I am doing wrong.

You want to tip him on Reddit, but not able to do so? If so make sure you have balance in the bot. If you don't have balance use !deposit <sats> to deposit and once you have balance reply to his comment with !lntip <sats>. You can't tip directly to the lightning address using the bot.

Yes but apparently to deposit on the reddit bot you need to make a transaction on-chain, which requires more satoshi as a fee, therefor I can't do that. Anyways the issue is solved. Next time I either won't withdraw the amount from there or I shall send it back directly via his address avoiding the bot.

It is better to wait for a reply from the support, resend another one will make you be setback from the queue which will prolong your time of waiting. But, 100 Satoshi seems to be too small for sending, would it be able to cover the transaction fee? I doubt it

the problem you had to be solved when you do that suggestion or sending tip outside from Reddit. the company need an operating fee for doing each transaction, cause that need on-chain fee.

Never heard Lighting can do RBF, if sending transaction with a small fee, transactions can't send or failed.

Yes the problem has been solved.
To get money into reddit the fee is high because you have to make the transaction on chain.

Once out of it, it's amazing. I sent 1 satoshi and I paid 1 satoshi as a fee. It arrived in 1 second. Amazing!

Can I suggest to use code-tags for LN payment requests? The spaces mess it up.
You can use Decoder for Lightning Payment Requests to check the request.

Also: note that LN doesn't use "addresses".

I know nothing about Reddit tips, but if you want to play around with some LN-funds, Sats 4 Likes gives some LN satoshis for following someone on Twitter. Instant withdrawals. Or post a request for 100 sats here, and I'll send it myself.

Oh sorry, ok I fixed it.
Yes I'm on android so I use phoenix but I'm already suggesting Bluewallet to people who have an iPhone. It's great to send some sat around like this, hopefully it will get someone interested in bitcoin.
