    12 Years ago on this date (22 May 2010) ...   Laszlo Hanyecz bought 2 pizzas via this forum for 10 000 bitcoins ==> https://bt.irlbtc.com/view/137.0 and it was worth almost $41 back then. Those same bitcoins are now worth almost $300 000 000.  Shocked

    He continued doing that for almost 3 months and then he declared that he cannot mine enough coins to sustain this. This made him a legend in the Bitcoin community, because he showed people that Bitcoin had worth and you can use it as a "Currency" "Commodity" to trade or to pay for goods and services.

    So, we Thank you Laszlo Hanyecz for your sacrifice and your gesture that changed the way people looked at Bitcoin in the future. Bitcoin might never have achieved it's success, if it was not for you.  Wink

    Some people thinks that what he did is stupidity and most of us think that it is something to regret knowing that you bought  2 pizza for something that worth millions of dollar right now.
    But for him and for us, it is something of a legend in such a way that he did somehow change or even be a marked something to bitcoin showing to the whole crypto community that bitcoin is a currency that can be traded of or be used to buy something.

    Oh boy, I didn't know this day was celebrated. Happy bitcoin pizza day everybody  Cheesy Not sure if Laszlo wants to remember that day in particular. It feels a bit like meme to me and if I were in his shoes I would hey drunk every year on this day. 300m USD for 2 pizzas is rough. Lazlo is the reason why I never would buy food with crypto currencies. You can consume food only one time and there is no value left after that. If you at least buy a physical asset you have something left. And even if bitcoins rally after your purchase you have something tangible that doesn't make it seem so bad. It's kinda sad he hasn't been online for so long.

    Ok, but what happens if nobody buys anything with bitcoins? The end result will be that you will be trading bitcoins and nobody will be able to spend it. People has to spend their bitcoins for retailers and merchants to accept it as a payment option.... and that is where Laszlo opened people's eyes to the real purpose/goal of Bitcoin.

    The more merchants and retailers accepting Bitcoin as a payment option, the higher the demand for the coins and the higher the demand... the higher the price.  Wink

    1. He sacrificed the Bitcoins he had just to make sure he could show people that It was possible to purchase physical items using Bitcoin.
    2. Even when people were not responding to his offer, he did not give up and kept bumping the thread. This shows that he knew exactly what he was doing.

    It was celebrated over 12 years before and people don’t believe the bitcoin at that time. So the bitcoin was used for the pizza. But my wishes on this was, I would like to see that pizza owner. If I found him, I was dam sure he will billionaire or millionaire for sure. But Incase he had send the bitcoin for the immediate dollars, So that he will not had any bitcoin for now and we had a loss.

    Bitcoin's first transaction was huge at this point in time. $300 million for pizza, well that's a huge sacrifice to make bitcoin an alternative payment at its current value. however, it is a sacrifice that needs to be made. anyways, i really appreciate mr Laszlo for doing this, and maybe good luck to the guy selling the pizza if he still has most of the bitcoins he receives. after all, this is one of the history in crypto world that I feel to be the first step of bitcoin transaction on real physical thing.     Satoshi innovated the technology and bitcoin evolved out of it. Laszlo Hanyecz gave value to it, so these two are most important persons for the network to be this stronger. I don't know whether someone would've done this, if Laszlo Hanyecz hasn't bought the pizza with 10000BTC. Later we heard about people losing wallets with huge volume of Bitcoin and similar news. For all those news were made out of him. If he hasn't initiated the spending possibility, we could've never recognised the technology as well as bitcoin.

    I am also expressing my gratitude here to Laszlo Hanyecz for starting the ball rolling for Bitcoin. It is just right that he is given the honor for doing something which started it all. To commemorate his famous Bitcoin pizza purchase every year is the least that the Bitcoin community could give to the man and his action. He will forever be remembered and honored. His purchase will forever be etched on the history of Bitcoin.

    But one thing I don't think he did was sacrifice. He did the buying with complete freedom and fun. He wasn't sacrificing anything. It is only in hindsight that people cried over spilled milk.

    This is what we should be doing in regards to Laszlo, thanking him for his massive contribution to bitcoin and the bitcoin network instead of making fun of him spending hundreds of millions on pizza. What I think most people don’t realize is he actually held multiple trades for bitcoin and pizza, in total he shared that he had spent somewhere around 35,000 bitcoins on pizza deals. The firs ever transaction, pretty cool !

    I am just wondering where is  Laszlo Hanyecz right now and if he also saved enough BTC that right now made him a rich man - that is after spending a lot of Bitcoin to buy the many boxes of pizza he ordered in the past...which of course made him famous in the crypto industry. He is already an unforgettable figure in the Bitcoin circle because every year we have the official Bitcoin Pizza Day...hope that by next year this same kind of feverish interest can be pick by the whole pizza industry so they can come up with promotional activities for the said day.

    Well, people are actually tracking the "Pizza Coins" through Blockchain analysis and they determined that someone bought a house with some of those bitcoins that was linked to the Laszlo coins.

    They reckon a lot of the transactions that we are doing now, still contains satoshis that were part of the original 10 000 bitcoins that Laszlo used to pay for the two pizzas.  Grin

It would be cool to buy pizzas with some of those coins again for probably 0.002BTC and then add the blockchain analysis. People in the next generation will probably look up to you spending 0.002BTC for 2 pizza also while by that time 0.002 will be worth a lot.

    I don't know why people think it was some kind of sacrifice or that Laszlo made a mistake by paying for 2 pizzas as much as 10 000 BTC? It should be noted that this was a completely different time when anyone could mine BTC with their computer and when very few people believed that Bitcoin could succeed. 50 BTC per block was a very generous reward, and I guess it wasn't extremely difficult to mine 10 000 BTC.

    This is without a doubt a historical event, but even if it had not happened then and in such a way, I guess Bitcoin would not have ceased to exist. Someone could also buy a few beers or burgers, and then we would celebrate Beer Day or Hamburger Day today.

     It is because of people like Laszlo that Bitcoin got to where it is today.

     Pizza day is not about pointing a finger at the value of BTC then and now, and cringe or laugh. Bitcoin started at zero on the 3rd of January 2009.

     Pizza day will forever immortalise the significance of the community for the success of the world's most important decentralised movement in human civilisation.

     laszlo is a pioneer. He is a legend.

    There you go, some of the Satoshi's are still in circulation. As well as Laszlo's historical and
    important transaction back in 2010 he and all the other miners involved in the "early days"
    deserve a big slice of recognition, without them Bitcoins future might not have looked so bright

    I decided yesterday to do some Art as it was such a rainy day but I got interrupted to go get
    Pizza and didnt get it finished!

    Unfortunately, some of us feel upset about what he has done. Because now it's worth way a lot. But, Laszlo never regrets it. Such a Legend.
