Welcome to the forum and yes bitcoin is indeed a wonderful initiative but its still used and abused by some people out there as loop hole to so many cyber related crimes as it is known that in nature anything that has good sides also has bad sides so i would advise to be very cautious even here in the forum some folks are just to lurking around to scam other but the forum will guide you in advices on the do's and don't that are involved in the crypto space.
For example
~it not safe for one to store there coins in exchange platform
~always keep your coins in an offline wallet
~always report any suspicious pm from any member in the forum  so many more just be willing you are here to learn and ask questions about things you don't know.

Welcome to The forum, hope you do enjoy your stay here. Consider moving this thread as suggested above to a more appropriate board. I could report it, but I prefer newer members going about the process themselves than just discovering their thread has been moved and not understanding why.

The forum does not have an inbuilt scam regulation system for this exact reason; you are not safe here on the forum or anywhere on the internet.

I doubt Bitcoin has had any significant effect on the rate of crimea or fraud in Nigeria. It's a great technology, but it has limits to its effects.

It's also worth noting that the crimes and criminal activities associated with bitcoin have existed for a long time before bitcoin itself. They could be using it as a shield to conceal their criminal activity, but bitcoin has nothing to do with it and does not encourage it in any way. This is one of the reasons it has yet to be accepted as legal tender throughout the world. I hope the bitcoin jinx is broken soon and bitcoin becomes widely accepted.

Bitcoin is a game changer as well as this bitcointalk forum is a life changer. As long as you abide with the rules and avoid the dont’s, you’ll have a great time in the forum. However, just like any platform, banning is very possible here so be as knowledgeable as you can be so you will never be a target of spamming that will eventually lead to banning you from the forum.

This might be true.... but you know what, there are so much activity on this forum ..that it is becoming very difficult to escape the investigative eyes of the Bitcoin enthusiasts on this platform.

How many people come to this forum to try and scam people.... and the "community" Police jump onto those threads to expose them. This is not always the case with other platforms with less activity, because it sometimes takes weeks on less active forums for people to react. 

Be careful even here. Not all here would be honest enough not to trick you. Anything related to bitcoin especially transaction must be handle with extra cautious even though this is also a place to conduct transaction only to those of who has good reputation and not deal with any newbies or if there is just vouch for it first. Learn here and youll see that many have been scammed as well.

Try to use non custodial wallets, with good password to secure it and have good backups for recovery later.

If you say curiosity brought with here, then your curiosity has brought you to the right place and that's a good motive for joining already unlike some others who are attracted to this forum for other reasons.


I have read this so many times and still cannot really wrap my head around what you mean by with bitcoins people are able to make a genuine living. It sounds like something that can be misinterpreted by beginners to mean that bitcoin is a get-rich quick scheme and that depending on bitcoin alone without having any other plans is okay. It is not so.

If you've gone through so many discussions on this forum you find out that the general advice is also that you should not completely depend on bitcoins and investments in cryptocurrency for your livelihood. So how do people make a living from bitcoin? are they really HODLing?

To correct you OP, I will say that bitcoin has offered hope for people in Africa to get out of poverty through purposeful and smart investments in it, not just an avenue to make a living like you suggest.
