Do you think the OG's don't care about developments? you can check on Bitcoin Github, it's quite active where many developer are propose something in order to adapt the current technology. It's impossible if they're not aware or care with the technology development, it don't change the Bitcoin protocol, but it just to strengthen the security.

As long as there are many people interested with Bitcoin, the Github will not abandoned and Bitcoin will still alive.
