I know plenty of people who never heard of bitcoin, and if they heard about it, they still dont know what it is.
But assessing the situation only by ones immediate environment is not an indicator of the reliability of this data. Statistics with a large number of respondents are needed. Also, have you talked to all of them about bitcoin? There is still a possible moment when people will remain silent about their knowledge about bitcoin, if they have experience investing in this asset, both positive (to avoid theft and robbery) and negative (not wanting to share about their failures).
Terpin "bitcoin", as a certain brand, I believe, many people could hear from the media and news, because every strong drop or rise in price is widely discussed, but without personal interest (the desire to invest), their knowledge probably ended there.
Ask any old person if they know what Bitcoin is and see if you find someone who actually knows anything about crypto currency.
Most older people have either heard very little (know nothing) about bitcoin, or have heard, but consider it a
ponzi-pyramid-scheme due to their low awareness on this topic (a superficial judgment based on government media).
I think most people who are in charge of their portfolios, they follow the markets and they know what Bitcoin is.
BTC-investors, at a minimum, have a basic understanding of this type of asset, but if their portfolio doesn't include cryptocurrencies (filled with securities from the traditional stock market), then these investors may not be aware of bitcoin, because all their attention is focused on Wall Street.
However aside from these people and maybe a few people with jobs in the tech sector, they dont know anything about bitcoin.
There are also not many bitcoiners in the technology sector, because I have heard from many of them their hostility towards bitcoin and their attitude as a financial pyramid. Again, all their judgments were based on their minimal (insufficient) knowledge of bitcoin.
If we sum up a certain thesis, then we can safely say that peoples lack of knowledge/acceptance of bitcoin is based on their ignorance. Those who more or less have sufficient information about bitcoin see advantages in this asset and try to take advantage of it.
