The last time I have read about this fake video app, it's just the same way as explained on the X post, in which they use the app to call their victim and present themselves to be who they want to be and communicate with the person's voice and face, which will appear so real and convincing, but the latest of the apps I have seen is that they will always be the ones to call the victim before the app can work properly. 
 
This part about stealing crypto through their app, which contains conference videos, is not new, which is why we are always advised to keep in mind the kind of application we install and grant access to our gadgets, as we never can tell what risk they carry or what kind of harm they can do to our data.

To be honest.  This is a time when if you do not possess the necessary knowledge and abilities to avoid Malware, you are better off not downloading random Software and browsing the Web generally.  Being a Target today seems so much easier than it used to.  Particularly as we are in times where everybody can create a Website and purchase and host a Domain within clicks and there are more Hackers and Malware than ever before.

Or stick to the golden rule of separating Computers based on use cases.  Cryptocurrency Wallet?  PC number 1.  Browsing?  PC number 2.  Mail, personal documents et cetera?  PC number 3.  Since you will only be browsing on Computer number 2, the other two will remain secured just in case you are the Target of a Malware.  There are enough older Computers you can buy used for sub 200 Dollars and they can run even Virtual Machines.  I have some Computers worth about 20 Dollars that are still capable of running latest versions of most popular Linux Distributions.  It is not hard to do this nowadays.

Ouch, that's concerning. To be honest, I haven't thought of the risk to cryptos from joining online meetings.
I believe that it's much safer when companies use third-party highly reputable software for online meetings, so that nobody has to worry about it containing malware. I'm talking about Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet. Aside from being reputable, they all allow joining the meeting without downloading software, which is helpful if one is concerned about potential malware.

And what is your point?  It sounds easy in theory to stick to simple and well known Software, yet some people really need a job and want a career for themselves.  Out of despair, many would fall for this trap.

Those fraudster really take advantage of people who're willing to compromise in order to get a job. Anyway, this is one of reason people keep recommending using hardware wallet or using separate device to store cryptocurrency.


It's also worth to mention big company may create their own software or use business software, which isn't known by average people.
