The investors that prefer the ETFs and think they are friendly and much safer is the ones that want to lessen the risk. They don't think hodling Bitcoin directly is the best option for them. That's fine and if that's the option they want to own, that's okay, there's still gain on them and later on, they'll learn how to invest with Bitcoin and if their curiosity remains in there, they should understand that with the ETFs, they're betting on the market and not actually holding it which is the majority knows is better to have.

It's the way for the bigger entities, in my opinion - those who are just enthusiasts as the rest would buy Bitcoin straightforwardly and be happy with their investments and custody for the time to come.
We are enthusiasts and at the same time investors too. We understand our position on this market and we are more familiar than of those that prefer the traditional way of investing through Bitcoin spot ETFs and other ways that have been converted and done by the financial institutions that have applied for it. There's nothing wrong with that because they've been there as well for so long but the investors that are into it will eventually learn how it should be and just get on it directly.

I do think if people were taught about what their custody would give them in the perspective, they would be more inclined to try something new too, but alas - you are right, everybody is free to go with Bitcoin in any way they please, nothing wrong with that indeed.
And they would always have a chance to do it differently.
