It is big regret for anyone who sold bitcoin to buy Ethereum in 2017. If they hold their bitcoin in 8 years, they have same bitcoin numbers and value of their portfolio increases a lot. If they sold their bitcoin, bought Ethereum, their equivalent bitcoin number now is7. I can not see any worse nightmare for investors like this case.

Ethereum kills their investors who mostly began with Bitcoin but later were convinced by Ethereum to join this project through selling bitcoins.
Sadly that's what a lot of users do, specially newcomers. They are told about bitcoin and they start with it, but then they are bombarded with countless altcoin advertisements telling them about "flippening" and how their shitcoin is better. So these newbies swap their valuable bitcoins for that shitcoin and end up losing money if they bag hold it.

Generally speaking altcoins are fantastic for short term profit making because they can experience "short bursts of pumps"! But when people end up not selling, and hope their bags appreciate more, that is when they start watching their capital melt away...
