AI is NOT some independent entity that make decisions like that on its own. Folks need to STOP thinking of 'AI' as some kind of self-aware thing that makes decisions about ANYTHING on its own.
PEOPLE set the boundaries of what an AI program does and what it is using as references for the decisions it comes up with. It cannot and will not 'just start' buying anything on its own - a person tells an AI trading bot what to trade in be it fiat, crypto, gold, silver, stocks & bonds, etc.
Frankly it is no different than any other trading bot other than being able to look at a wider range of inputs to use in the decision making progress. If the bot has been programmed to generate maximum profits by trading among a myriad of things (as defined by a person) and BTC is currently the best bet then yes, it could 'buy on its own' but only because someone has programmed it to do that. Again - no different than any other bot.
This was the case for a while, though it's not anymore. There are AI agents/operators that yes, will follow initial rules, though can learn, research and trade themselves. It's a concept that already works on platforms like virtuals and vvaifu, and is developing at a rapid rate. I'd say that they're not at the stage of being better than any algorithm developed and managed by a professional, though the concept is working and it has the potential to get there.
