Of course, the rise of Bitcoin is remarkable. No doubt there. But try to think beyond the mainstream. It is not about money or technology here. It's about what humans fundamentally want: autonomy, truth, and freedom. Even so, we keep deceiving ourselves into thinking that just technological development will define the nature of power. Sure, Bitcoin could decentralize money; but, will it also decentralize human greed, fear, insecurity?
Greed has been in existence even before technology came into existence. Over the years technology takes up one problem at a time and looking at the advancements, we will appreciate the effort so far. Bitcoin wasn't designed to solve our greed and insecurity issues. It was designed to solve the issue of trust and power. Power in the sense that you are now your own bank. You can confidently hold your funds with no fear of centralised manipulations.
The idea crypto will free us feels comforting, but also dangerously naive. Technology always reflects humanity back at itself. Remember the internet? Once hailed as the great liberator of mankind, today technology is mostly under control, surveilled, commoditized. The financial path of Bitcoin may rise remarkably; but, human nature hasn't changed essentially since the Romans minted coins.
Are we to blame the failure of humanity on technology? Technology has played it's part to bring the liberation and ease to life we need, greed and selfishness is a human factor that can still be curtailed through the same technology if we truly want to see it take effect in our society. Bitcoin isn't our problem and has never been. Greed has always been there even in our centralised society.
Invest cautiously, think deeply, remain honest about what crypto can and can't achieve. When individuals change the way they see power, money, and each other, then and only then will digital wallets and blockchain codes become revolutionary.
I still refuse to believe Blockchain has any contributions to the greed and insecurities the human race are facing. The Blockchain is there to keep everything transparent either on a permission or a permissionless network. The way people see money and power is their personal issue and doesn't define the entire revolution we have experienced so far.
