It depends, if they bought bitcoins at under $1 or less and sold them for $100 or $1000, they would have made a huge profit and become rich. Why should they regret when they have made a profit and are enjoying life?
There are people who invested or even bet in Bitcoin very early but not all of them managed to hold their bitcoins for profit and got richer to be millionaires or billionaires. Who succeeded to become either millionaires or billionaires through Bitcoin would feel very happily even if they had hold their bitcoin for longer time, their well-being would have been much better.
People have regret mostly because they lost their bitcoins or sold it for very cheap prices and did not get too much profit eventually. Time is irreversible, Bitcoin value and price won't return to its figures many years ago, so regret won't help anything. They only can invest in Bitcoin again, hold and wait for profit as at least they have advantage againt complete newbies in this market, with experience over past years.
Bitcoin is an asset, an investment that is attracting the whole world because of its potential to bring high profits. So people who put money into bitcoin but say they are not for profit are just fake and blatant liars. I bet that if Bitcoin becomes stable or can no longer provide large returns, it will be inevitable that many investors will leave and seek alternatives.
Bitcoin can be considered as anything with either accurate terms or incorrect terms but what you think Bitcoin is won't change what Bitcoin actually is. You can use inaccurate term for mentioning about Bitcoin, but if you can invest, hold and get good profit with it, you are good and that's enough.
It's still better than if you understood Bitcoin well, used correct term for it but in your practice you did not make it well and did not get good profit.
