Afaik they are already known and with photos in newspapers, so the train of keeping low profile is long gone. And imho these news on how small amounts one can get from them are desperate attempts: I can guess that if one of the family member is taken hostage for ransom they will try to rescue him, hence find the access to their money.
Of course, I truly hope that this kind of scenario will never happen to them, but given what I said, I think that they need better approach than encryption.


And yeah, this sounds tough, but imho it achieves absolutely nothing.

No matter how much I hate fiat, I think that they need to diversify heavily, i.e. start having big amounts of other types of wealth. And then if they ever need to give out some coins, so be it, family and health are more important than money. And some of their money/wealth/properties remains on their name so they can just go on.

How dumb are these people? Why on earth would they publicise themselves in this manner when they knew that there were risks involved? This is just stupidity of the highest order plain and simple.

If I were them, I would somehow totally shift to a secure location and keep a low profile in order to avoid drawing any more attention.

That’s one way to minimize the risk.. they stopped posting about their travels. But since they’re already well-known, people can still identify them.
Hiding the keys across different continents is actually a smart move.

These days, with Bitcoin being accepted almost everywhere, anyone holding a significant amount is at risk of getting kidnapped. That’s just reality. Prevention is always key here. What’s the point of being wealthy if you end up losing your freedom?

Once you become a public figure, there is no getting out from being the center of attention or coming into notice by many. I don’t think this family has really attained that yet but, should they continue to show a lavish lifestyle and relate it to how Bitcoin have changed their lives in the past couple of years, they should be very prepared for the threats they now face to multiply.

As much as the steps already taken to there security is paramount and good for them, it doesn’t mean these criminals would want to stop with what they have on their immediate device. They would always try several means to make you have those long arms to provide even more. You just have to be sure to make them believe; all you have is all that is with you right there.

Been around at least since 2017. Covered him (the dad) for a bit when was still a journalist, and he's still pretty active in his own group (mainly in Dutch) and I never like to discredit people like him, but I think it is seldom stated or at least, missed out, that he actually made the calls for his family. Children were still young at the time and the Dutch government had threatened to take legal action for keeping them out of school (he worked it out eventually, homeschooled the kids).

But I always felt like his partner and children didn't have much of a say. The kids, anyway, took on that almost nomadic life for his gamble.

Also seldom stated is he's not a Bitcoiner solely. Promoted a lot of shitcoins and projects (how else do you get paid, no?).

So I'm not sure what the secret they're sharing is (referencing the title of this thread). Secret to not become a target as a famous personality? Then it's not unique to them. Hardware wallets definitely not great for their use case, as he points out.

Because the dangerous situation certainly not only threatens him, but his family can also be at risk. The right choice for him is to no longer publish their location on the vlog and enjoy life more peacefully. However, the outside situation that knows his condition, which has a large amount of assets, must be a concern for many people. All will remain safe if they remain calm and do not pay too much attention.
He took a pretty good step to reduce the risk of losing all his assets if the worst happens to him.

It is one of a kind but I can never say it was a smart one because if Bitcoin dumped and failed, his family would be left with worthless coins.  They just got lucky this time that Bitcoin took off and increase in value exponentially.  Though it is an argument whether the Bitcoin family approach is wrong since they became successful.  

But it is too risky to put oneself on a high profile and announce to the public that they invested everything in Bitcoin because, now they are living in fear.  Yes at the early years of their success they had their financial freedom and all but due to being a high-profile family, they had to change everything and now are living with worries.

Though they are very wealthy they will probably never gain that peaceful mind again.

Wouldn’t have actually sold everything because there is definitely going to be a house where they shelter themselves and practically I wouldn’t be able to believe that they sold their house and went to rent because that would be a huge risk taken. Probably they own more than one house and took the risk of selling off one which is a calculated risk. Not everyone can or should even emulate this kind of risk, calculate what you can afford to risk and go into bitcoin. Bitcoin investment if planned well is the best form of investment currently as it grows your investment into profits and safeguard your money from devaluations.

As for them trying to hide from the public now I think they bought that to themselves, bitcoin is pseudonymous and until you make it public no one can know about your investment. I will say their paying the price of been a public figure

If you are disclosing your financial assets then get ready for consequences like kidnapping for ransom. The bad guys are always looking for such people who have good amount of money that can be demanded as a ransom. The family would have been in better situation if they haven't disclosed there live locations along with posting details in daily or weekly vlogs. If you are public figure then it's very important to figure out what to post online and what not. I am of the view that those who have good amount of money should stay away from online platforms to hide there personal identities.
