I have always believed that most hackers are government backed, and this one is one example of a solidarity move by a bad actor to support the war going, a wake up call for the exchanges to take security as top priority for them.

It's a bit ironic that many people burn their coins on this kind of thing, and surely most of those who do this don't even think about donating to the development of bitcoin, it seems that most people when they have a certain amount of money ignore the reality of the world and live their own reality forgetting the roots of the currency that made them rich, they only come here when they have been hacked or have a technical problem, and many leave without thanking, it seems that their lifestyle makes them believe that these sites and the knowledge of their users are sustained by thin air.

It acts like a normal BTC address and the funds in it are accessible with the private keys.

But it's still possible the above address was not generated at all. Probably it was just crafted intentionally by a person without generating a private key for it, which would make it a burn address.


It was a hack and the Israeli hackers choose to burn the funds moved from Iran owned Nobitex exchange. Not a sort of an individual protest.

Aside from the Bitcoin core devs rewriting the software. In the future, when a quantum computer that's powerful enough is developed, every exposed public key wallet's private keys will be derived using the long range technique attack through Shor’s algorithm. Therefore, almost all Bitcoins sent to burnt addresses will be recoverable.

The period of the vanity address generation depends on the wallet address's desired prefix or pattern and the computational power used.

I just read it on this site, thanks for the information, although I don't really understand the context or where you got the private key thing you shared in your message because it doesn't make sense to me that that address has a known private key, the probabilities are extremely low, plus it seems to be an invalid WiF.

I think people will keep monitoring this address to check if the coins will be moved but as many mentioned its most likely there's no privkey at all and the hacker decided to burn the money instead of stealing it

I suppose that whoever burned the btc wanted to symbolize it with references other than Bitcoin, since if he had tried a little harder with brute force he could have built a valid burn address using all the characters, such as:

The remaining users there will only stay because of the refund but after that, they'll leave once they receive it. But most likely, many are going to find another one that will make them feel secured. Still, in the end, most funds that are deposited to this and other exchanges, as you've said, it's not the users coins anymore because they don't hold the keys. It's sad that many still put a large amount of money in exchanges trusting them.

So the hacker eventually burnt Bitcoins. Though this is good for Bitcoin, it is not for the overall crypto industry. Any hacking isn't expected either for good reasons. Hackers attacked an Iranian exchange, but the funds are from users. So ultimately users will suffer due to this attack. I noticed this address earlier and the story about hacking. But I just noticed a burn from this thread. I don't support this kind of behaviour, like hack and burn, where users are affected.

Any war should be limited to government and their forces. Shouldn't affected innocent people wither online or offline? I am against any kind of war, to be honest, whether it's real life or virtual. War just destroys; it doesn't build anything.
