Perhaps I'm being a bit too radical for my usual self. Sorry...
But it's starting to really bother me, these alt accounts that only cause trouble and abuse a community that wants to be based on trust.
I don't think that you are even closely aware just how deep this issue goes, and I don't mean you personally to isolate you in some way -- many users have been complacent, naive, unaware (for intentional or unintentional reasons), or they are simply refusing to accept that things are as bad as they really are (which is often a coping method of weak minds). After a short period of here and having read many posts in many boards, I have right away seen that most of the responest is the lowest junk possible. Unless many users have medically defined retardation, it is clear right away that most users deliver the most generic/minimum effort shitposts imaginable. Then if you are good at pattern recognition, based on posting behavior, merits sent or not sent, and other things -- you could easily see that somewhere upwards of 50 to 90% of all accounts currently enrolled fall into one or several of these categories:
1. Shitposter.
2. Account farmer.
3. Boosted account.
4. Colleague of someone from 1/2/3.
There is absolutely no need to be lenient towards people who have been abusive for a long time, that must be an example of the worst kind of liberal rot that there is.
I also think the initial ban should be for 120 days, not a year. The forum averages about 25,000 posts per week, and long-term bans would significantly reduce overall activity, while a three-month ban would provide just enough time for a re-examination (a second ban would double the ban, for example).
Exactly. I understand the need to be radical but implementing this wouldn't cost the forum much
And could help not just in improving overall quality but also traffic.
I doubt who was caught would want to face an harsher punishment later.
They can use the probation period to grow.
This kind of leniency is ridiculous, and even more it is ridiculous to ask for the same punishment for different offenders who have different severity of offense. There is not a single valid reason to give someone who is a borderline shitposter a 120 day ban and to give the same ban to an extreme shitposter that has been doing the same pattern for years. Furthermore, any kind of period that you get is your probation -- there is no need to soften a "probation" or complicate any of this. Lastly, there must be an impact on traffic and that is a good thing -- this is how you solve problems. If you have a place where 90% of the traffic is shit or bots, there is no reason not to get rid of that traffic -- This forum is not a business and it does not depend on this traffic.
