It's been in the subject for so long and I don't think that there will be a consensus about bitcoin becoming a proof of stake.
That will sacrifice the security of it and is anyone going to like it? maybe the whales will do but majority of us won't.
When nothing is broken, there's no need for any changes or fixes at all.
The shift from PoW to Pos will bring a long debate, even if there is 1 group that proposes PoS there needs to be a social and economic consensus involving many developers, communities, miners etc.
Let's say the majority of it all says agree moving to a post is not necessarily an automatic move. If the rest of them continue to run PoW, 2 groups are created that claim each other's bitcoins are legitimate.
