    Hi all,

I've started maintaining the Bitcoin Roots patch for node operators who want selected policy and operational features from Knots without adopting RDTS/BIP110 consensus rules.

Today, Roots is still based on Bitcoin Core v29.4, with selected Knots-derived changes maintained on top. It connects to the Bitcoin network and validates the same chain.
This is a patch on core and will catch up with 30 and 31, while perfectioning methodology and test suite. Roots is not a proposal for another coin or a separate blockchain.

The motivation is fairly simple. I value the controls Knots has offered node operators, but that does not mean I want different block-validity rules.
Roots is an attempt to preserve useful work while keeping faithful to Bitcoin Core.

I want running a fully validating node at home to remain practical. Local resource limits and predictable behaviour matter to me.
I don't think disagreement about transaction relay policy should require choosing a different Bitcoin chain.

Bitcoin Roots is published as a patch against Bitcoin Core, with binaries for Linux, macOS and Windows available too.
Each release identifies its Core base and provides a Git-am-compatible patch series.

I maintain Roots at the Plan ₿ Foundation in Lugano, where I'm Scientific Director. Some here may also know me from Dyne.org and Devuan.

I'd welcome review of the patches and reports from people running ordinary home nodes.
This is a young project; use a test setup and keep wallet backups before experimenting.

For those coming to the Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano, I'd be glad to discuss it in person.

    ciao :^)
