New game? Incorrect. Hacking problems are pretty much a permanent issue especially in the crypto world op. Mt.Gox in 2014, FTX, Bybit etc are just a couple of examples over the course of history. This is an endless cat and mouse game(Hackers and Security pros).
AI has made it a lot easier for hackers to penetrate sites effectively these days, but it has also helped improve security infrastructures of the same sites drastically. Double edged sword!
By depositing around tens of millions of USDT to Aave as collateral and then immediately borrowing ETH, he managed to turn easily frozen assets into ones that are much harder to track and cant be blacklisted by Tether. Once the ETH was out, freezing the stablecoins in his wallet became less effective, while his ETH was already gone to another address. This shows how fast and creative the perpetrator was in exploiting the loopholes at the exchange.
Inaccurate. They are definitely not that smart apparently. Half of the 6 bill was frozen immediately while remaining half is subject to liquidity choking and other security protocols due to which their net profit at the end is a fraction of the entire 6 bill basically.
