Even if 48% of block space is occupied by non monetary data, Bitcoin's characteristic as form of money will remain unchanged. Its limited supply, censorship resistance and network security will all stay exactly same.
Here is the plain reality:
- core deleted from their documentation in 2022 the definition of bitcoin as a currency/money/cash. And their excuse for doing this was that "what is bitcoin is very much up for debate". Meaning 90% of the network runs on node software that doesn't recognize bitcoin as money.
- every year since that, spam on chain only increases year after year. When the fees are low, they claim the high fees will filter out spam. And when the fees are high, it's always caused by an increase in spam.
- given that core doesn't even acknowledge there is a spam problem, they actually are removing spam filters, and spam is currently 4-10x cheaper in fees than monetary txs, it's only rational to accept the spam will only get worst. There are no other predictions you can make: spam will get worst.
So, your own number tell whole story.
Did only 0.03% of SpiderPool's reward come from spam?
So, they aren't filling up block space with spam for the sake of profit, saying that they are offering discount is unreasonable.
I didn't once claim that spam miners are filling up blocks with cheap spam for profit.
The reason why spam is so cheap us because they exploit several bugs in the code. And core has repeatedly refused to fix any of those bugs. BIP110 fixed many of those bugs. But coretard and the spam nining cartel rejected BIP110.
The fact is that spam is getting on chain for a lot cheaper than monetary txs. All the while coretard are claiming "the fees are the only filter we need"
Who are the fees filtering if spam pays a lot less in fees than monetary users?
Many pools operate under default policy and do not concern themselves with template.
So, actual problem is not greed of miners, but rather default relay and mining policy.
Yup! That is exactly the problem. So trust me on this, that's not going to get any better any time soon.
However, those large pools are running multi million $ operations. I think you are a bit naive to think they just don't care about default settings and default policy. They clearly care a lot.
