I don't think that is obligatory. But sure, why not if you find a good way to do it. But even currency or money is rather generic subject/matter. I would rather see exo-logo, as any other logo too, just somehow catchy, fresh, recognisable and simple enough. Like Nike logo for example, does not necessarily mean anything but is recognisable. I may as well make another proposal still too if I can come up with something new. Anyhow it's healty to discuss the logo-issue in open manner and not to rush with the decision.
Btw, checked the actual size of current coinmarketcap small logos, it's as small as 16x16 pix!
