why would Verisend need encryption the mixing is so strong that you can't discern anything about the sender anyway
Because the markets love it, look at XC and Crypt- they both offer encryption. There is no reason encryption cant be added even with VeriSMS. The encryption is performed between nodes. No need for encryption from sender to node, or even from node to receiver for that matter.
I know the devs will add it eventually though because they rock.
Even if technically speaking adding encryption is overboard and maybe not really required because as you say the mixing itself anonymizes the transaction enough. If its feasible without too much overhead then it should be done. Look at Apple, why are they STILL so successful? Lets face it Samsung phones are better now. But Apple design good looking phones and have a perception of quality.
Perception is reality, reality at the technical level only exists to us crypto enthusiasts. Try explaining to your average joe or a hedge fund why encryption is unnecessary and you will probably get a blank look.
I care more about perception than reality in markets. Just because I think VRC is going to the moon long term I will probably still sell (short) the market at certain price points in future if I think volume has dropped off too much.
