How was a coin that supposedly "never was alive" able to be the first to deploy CLTV?

VIA and XCH are a solid platform.  We've built it, and just have to wait for the world to catch up.  Same story as Bitcoin in 2010.

I'd love to have 30 minutes and a beer to explain to Pat Byrne (the Overstock and T0 guy) what VIA has accomplished and why it matters.
