Do I need to use any specific mining software or does the original Java miner work?

To be honest I don't know what miner works and which doesn't. I have been mining official v2 pool and haven't switched since.

This I know it works. But it doesn't let you select multiple plot sources lile Dcct's one does.

Meanwhile, I woke up to 4 new blocks while you guys waste mining time on pools that only half work. 

Solo is where it's at.

i'm making the right amount on pool, nothing to complain, i'm checking every few hours so...

15TB plotted so far. I'd solo mine with 3TB or higher. This coin is still young enough to solo mine, don't waste it pool mining especially while there still seems to be issues with pools. Be realistic while solo mining, don't get scared about not finding a block 6 hours in to solo mining and switch back to pool. Stick with it for a few days, you'll see that you're making more than if you were pool mining.
