You probably have to wait a bit until wallet downloads the blockchain. Check the OP for the nodes you should add to the conf file, and restart your wallet, if needed.
I had opened the wallet several times in the last week, and there was always at least one or two connections, and I had no problems with syncing.

If you do remember the original MacOSX and POS problems with the wallet and how much time it took to fix it (~1 month | ICO has ended November 19, 2014 but they released working wallets only December 22, 2014) then it's not completely strange that devs left the boat.

Only one good thing here, they donated 2.7BTC from our money to fight ebola.

I don't think you will hear from the Dev any time soon.
99.99% of similar cases here in crypto meant Dev already abandoned the project, and is either on the 'well-deserved' holidays or working on another 'project'.
