Bitcoin Receives Venture Capital Attention, Indirectly Through CoinbaseWritten on August 4, 2012... I wanted to take this time to highlight a very substantial event that happened just recently. This story has to do with a little start-up company known as Coinbase. Coinbases mission is to enable payment via email, of the bitcoin currency, similar to what Paypal did with US dollars over a decade ago. Y-combinator had just recently funded this company with the likes $164,000.00 and a three month acceptance into the highly prestigious y-combinator start-up class. This may not seem significant at first, but when you really look at what is happening here, you start to realize how profound this is. Y-combinator is a venture capital recruiting camp of sorts, for start-up companies. Y-combinator is not just any vc firm, they are one of the most notable across the globe, and is headed by one of the early founders of Yahoo, Paul Graham. Theyve successfully incubated the growth of companies by the names of reddit, dropbox, airbnb, and the like. Coinbase was accepted into the y-combinator program in June. Do you see where this is going? ...
