We should leave .com behind, as well as any other domain tainted by the VeriSign ToS. It is through the wording of the VeriSign ToS that U.S. Homeland Security thugs have been able to execute their capricious domain name take-downs.
Bitcoin will never be mainstream with this sort of attitude.

I would choose idealism.

Verisign will shutdown your domain in the blink of one eye. That is crude and realistic.
I would setup an onion mirror for the main website.
Anyway, bitcoin.org is well positioned in google search for the "bitcoin" keyword.
